Quick Trip to BJ's

I was going to go to Shaw's today to pick up a few things but my lovely GPS to me to a store that must have closed awhile ago because it wasn't there. I changed my plans and decided to go to BJ's to check out what they had for organic options. I wasn't too impressed and do not see myself making BJ's a regular stop but maybe just a once every few months thing.

Earth's Pride Organic Apple Juice $4.99
Horizen Organic Milk $3.89 (my husband's favorite)
2.5 lb Organic Grapes $5.49 ($2.20 a pound)
Earth's Pride Organic Juice Boxes $9.49 (32 juice boxes)
Applegate Turkey Breast $7.69 (2 packages)
5 lbs Organic Apples $7.99 ($1.60 a pound)
Organic Eggs $3.89

Total: $43.43

When I got home I read the ingredients on the juice boxes and though there is no added sugar I am leery of all of the additional "nutrients" that were added. I will let my kids have them as a treat in their lunches here and there but I don't plan on buying them again. I really need to start reading labels better, but my excuse this time was that my almost two year old did not want to sit in the cart so I spent a good deal of time chasing her around the store.

With today's trip I am about $6.50 under the $150 I allotted for the week. My husband has a buisiness trip next week so I don't see me spending a ton of money on food (feeding just the kids and I is so much easier- dare I say that they are not as picky as he is sometimes).

Whole Foods- Cheap Grass Fed Beef

4.05 lbs Grass Fed 90% Ground Beef $20.21 ($4.99 a pound- awesome price!)
365 Organic Frozen Ravioli $4.99
Wallaby Organic Keifer $3.69
365 Organic Butter $4.79
365 Organic Whole Wheat Flour $4.69
.38 lb Roasted Peanuts $1.67 (from the bulk bins)
2 Veggie Puffs @ $1.67 each (they had free samples- they were yummy)
Kettle Chips $4.99
3.13 lb Organic Gala Apples $7.79
365 Organic Hamburger Buns $3.29

Total: $59.45

This trip is from Friday- I had to take advantage of their $4.99 a pound grass fed beef sale.

Between this trip and my trip to Target I spent about $90 which means I have $60 left for the week. I wasn't feeling well today and don't think I'll be feeling well tomorrow so I may make a trip to the store for some produce and milk on Wednesday. We should have enough fruit and frozen veggies to get us through to then but if we run out of fresh fruit I always have raisins, dried apricots and applesauce cups in case of emergency. My dream would be to not have to go the store until the weekend and then I would be $60 under budget for the week- a girl can dream, can't she?

Quick Target Trip

This trip is from Friday...

Orbit Gum $2.00
2 Annie's Organic Snack Mix @ $2.89 each
2 Annie's Buttery Wheat Crackers @ $2.08 each (regularly $2.89 each)
Heinz Vinegar $2.84
Kashi Organic Autumn Wheat Cereal $3.69 (love this as a snack for myself)
Little Debbie Honey Buns $2.64 (for my husband)
Domino Sugar $2.64 (pure cane so gmo free)
(3) 12 Packs Cherry Coke $8.00 - .40 Cartwheel Savings (for my husband)

Total: $30.77

We don't go through a ton of white sugar here because I don't bake treats often (no time with the kids constantly bugging me) and I try to use unrefined sugars as much as possible. But we ran out of regular sugar so I decided to get it at Target because it's cheaper than at Whole Foods. I was going to buy the Target brand to save a little money but when I looked at the ingredient list is just said sugar. That concerned me because most of the time when a label says sugar it means the sugar came form sugar beets which are a notorious gmo crop. Domino sugar is pure cane sugar which means it most certainly not a gmo product. This is why it is very important to read labels, because you never know where ingredients will creep in that you don't want to feed your family.

I am happy to say that I did not go over budget this week, even with my husband making a junk food run to Target for himself (spent about $15) and us buying a loaf of Italian bread to have with dinner the other night ($2.99).

I am not sure about staying under budget this coming week though because I am going to have to buy some more meat, including some $4.99 a pound grass fed ground beef from Whole Foods this Friday.
